Looks like Salman Khan's 'expert' comment on depression has not gone down well with Deepika Padukone. It's a known fact that Deepika suffered from Depression. It was very brave of her indeed to come forward and discuss the issue on various public forums. What Deeepika went on to do has really helped spread awareness about the significance of the mental health.  In fact, her being vocal about the subject has won Deepika a great deal of praise. After all, the elephant is in the room and it is only silly to ignore it.

But when Salman Khan was asked about Bollywood celebs talking about depression in their interviews and on various social platforms, here's what Khan had to say. "I see a lot of people getting depressed and emotional, but I can't afford that luxury of being depressed or sad or emotional because no matter what I am going through, it works against me."

In what looked like an attempt to set the record straight, coupled with an opportunity to take a dig at Salman, Deepika gave an interview in which she had this to say. "Depression is sometimes perceived as luxury... (But) It is important to break that myth." Padukone was discussing the perception that depression occurs in only successful people.

"When we were talking about more celebrities coming out and speaking and when we were talking about stigma, there is a lot of miscommunication that depression happens to people who are successful. I want to clarify that it can happen to anybody from any field," she added.

While we are with Deepika Padukone on this, we must also add that Salman Khan is not entirely wrong with his comment either. After all, it's one thing to understand  what depression is, and try to possibly find solutions , It's absolutely nonsensical to glorify the issue of depression and make it fashionable, so to speak!

Honestly, Bollywood celebs repeating their sorry how-I-challenged-my-depression saga ad nauseum, they unconsciously send out a wrong message sometimes. The constant bombarding is only adding to the woes. In that regard what Salman Khan said is not inappropriate. The message is loud and clear--if you are depressed, you need to get out of it and seek professional help if needed.

Our take on the issue is simple: We live in a very complicated world. And as if that's not enough, we choose our own complications too! No wonder there are more people around us, more than ever before, who are messed up in their heads to say the least. But mollycoddling and glorifying the problem is not going to serve any purpose. Education is a must but what one must avoid is the constant advertisement of the issue that needs to be addressed judiciously.

Tell us what is your take on the issue. Are you with Bhai or you choose to agree with what Deepika had to say? Post your comment on the section below.
