Salman Khan Birthday Special: 5 Movies Where Bhai Delivered Fine Performances in Small Doses
On the occasion of his 53rd birthday, we look at five movies where Salman was a real scene-stealer in small doses!
Salman Khan may be one of the biggest stars in Indian cinema right now, never mind that little debacle of Race 3, and his popularity is such that his movies make Rs 100 crore within three days. But can we consider Salman Khan as one of the best actors in town? Err...may be not! It is not that Bhai is not a competent actor, it is just that he has been strutting a bit too much in the past few years. Luckily for Salman, his fans don't expect too much from him and Bhai sails smoothly just on his charisma unless he doesn't attempt movies like Tubelight! Salman Khan will get married in 2019 reveals Karan Johar.
But can Salman Khan give a performance that goes beyond his star charisma? Sure, his fans swear by his performances in Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Sultan, but we have seen better ones from him. Of course, they aren't any National award-winning performances in there, but his performances in Saajan, Andaz Apna Apna, Veergati, Jeet are worthy of mention. Also, we observed that Bhai can deliver a knockout act when the pressure of the leading man is not on him! On the occasion of his 53rd birthday, we look at five movies where Salman was a real scene-stealer in small doses! Salman Khan Birthday: Here's How The Actor Plans to Make This Day Extra Special for his Fans.
Khamoshi: The Musical
There was a time when Salman Khan didn't mind doing a supporting role in a film where he is not the focus. Sanjay Leela Bhansali's debut film (also his best) is a beautiful drama about the bond between a mute father (Nana Patekar) and his daughter (Manisha Koirala). Salman Khan plays the lover and later, husband of the daughter, and the star underplays himself to deliver one of his best performances. He was especially good in the church scene where he breaks down while delivering a speech.
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai
Salman Khan's extended cameo in Karan Johar's debut film was one of the biggest surprises of Bollywood (they didn't use to 'leak' cameos then). As the guy in love with the leading lady, Salman was charming in every sense and though Shah Rukh Khan took away the girl in the end, he won your hearts. Not just that, Salman even took away his first Filmfare award for the Best Supporting Actor the next year!
No Entry
Even though No Entry had three lead heroes, the movie was sold in Salman's name. Which was kind of deceptive, since his role was more of an extended cameo like KKHH, while Anil Kapoor and Fardeen Khan have bigger roles. However, even in that brief runtime, Salman Khan is a complete laugh riot in what possibly is his second-best comic performance after Andaz Apna Apna.
Baghban
Salman Khan's role, that of an orphan in complete adoration of his foster parents in this family drama, is diabetically sugary enough. And yet, Salman manages to play it straight and sweet and makes every parent yearn that they get a son like him!
Phir Milenge
Salman did this film as a good favour for his friend and former co-star Revathy, who is the director, and she eked out an act from him that surprised many. I could go out and say that this could be Salman Khan's most nuanced performance. Also, his riskiest role that not many have bothered to watch. And I bet if you can keep your eyes dry in his death scene.
