Sacred Games has found itself in a hot soup, when an FIR was filed against the Netflix show for insulting the former Prime Minister of India, the late Rajiv Gandhi. The outrage was sparked when a character in the series called the former PM a fattu for his stand in the infamous Shaikh Bano case and also took a dig at his alleged involvement in the Bofors scandal. The controversy snowballed into a huge debate on social media with BJP supporters hailing the show for calling out the 'truth', while the Congress supporters called out Sacred Games for not taking digs at BJP and Shiv Sena leaders, despite 1992 riots playing a major part in the show.

Speaking of which, the lead actor of Sacred Games, Saif Ali Khan had something interesting to say, which might hint at the bias. Speaking about the controversy to The Quint, Saif said, "If you date someone from the wrong caste, somebody will kill you in some parts of India. That’s just the way it is. I don’t know how much you can criticise your government in India, somebody might kill you." So is this why the show took potshots at the leader of the Congress party, which people consider safe to criticise, but not other political parties? Your guess is as good as ours!

In the same interview, Saif also revealed that he will be angry if the show gets discontinued over the controversies. He had said, “It will be deeply frustrating if something happens to the show. If someone says you can’t air this or if Netflix is discontinued. Then that will be my turn to be outraged."

Coming back to the Rajiv Gandhi controversy, his son and INC president, Rahul Gandhi wants to distance himself from the whole issue. He had tweeted, "BJP/RSS believe the freedom of expression must be policed & controlled. I believe this freedom is a fundamental democratic right. My father lived and died in the service of India. The views of a character on a fictional web series can never change that".
