Sacred Games found itself in a political entanglement when a couple of dialogues of Nawazuddin Siddiqui's irked a Congress worker. The show has Nawaz's character Ganesh Gaitonde call the late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi a 'fattu' (coward, while the subtitles translated to 'pu**y') and then talked about his involvement in the Bofors case. An FIR was filed against the show, the actor for insulting the late PM, which led to diverse reactions on social media. BJP supporters voiced their opposition against the FIR, while the Congress supporters asked why the Netflix show didn't have the guts to call out the late Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray and BJP leader LK Advani and Vajpayee for their involvement in the Babri Masjid riots.

But it was the reaction of Rajiv Gandhi's son and the current President of INC party, Rahul Gandhi, that left many stunned. He wrote on Twitter, "BJP/RSS believe the freedom of expression must be policed & controlled. I believe this freedom is a fundamental democratic right. My father lived and died in the service of India. The views of a character on a fictional web series can never change that". His stand on the whole issue had left many applauding for upholding an individual's right to express, even if it might hurt someone's sentiments.

Among those who hailed Rahul Gandhi's tweet, was Anurag Kashyap, who had directed the Gaitonde track in Sacred Games. Under fire for this track, it must be a huge relief for the film-maker that the Congress head doesn't want to pursue this issue further.
