Just like that, Aamir Khan pops out of nowhere, makes us watch a film that needs a lot of mental preparation and expects us to do the one thing that is surprisingly the most difficult thing to do, 'forgive'. Not the opposite person but oneself. Forgive oneself for being so drowned in anger that they left no room for redressal and recuperation. Rubaru Roshni, a docu-drama directed by Svati Chakravarty Bhatkal, brings forth stories of individuals from various walks of life who have suffered loss, experienced anger but eventually moved on by doing a simple thing, forgiving.

What is outstanding about Rubaru Roshni is the simplicity by which it has been shot. There is absolutely no need for a star figure or impeccable camera work to deliver the stories these individuals in the film have to discuss. They are all part of a journey, who have had some adverse effects on each other but have eventually taken the path of perseverance to free themselves. The characters are real and raw. The characters have seen hardships, been in a conflict situation and eventually let their anger subside into therapy.

Sure, it seems like next to impossible, especially if someone has cost you your beloved's life. However, the success stories of these individuals to just let go the past, let go their angst, let go their inhibitions and simply move on for a brighter future of what's left of life, makes it a great watch. In a press conference, filmmaker Svati, who comes from a research background even expressed how she too suffered from angst over something that happened to one of her children, for which she wanted an eye for an eye. But the journey she embarked on while speaking to the individuals who became a part of Rubaru Roshni, gave her the answer to curb or rather relinquish her anger.

The stories shared by Svati will give you gooseflesh as you watch it. It has been perfectly balanced as it gives a clear picture of the conflict that arose on both the parties which culminated in the consequence of one losing someone precious. It is an objective film that does not take sides, which works tremendously as it gives the viewer a choice to make. To be fair, the choice need not be made because the bigger picture is about forgiveness and nothing else.

Aamir does not plan to release the film in theatres. The film has already been raved about by celebrities, which usually has a lot of bias as many would comment. However, this is one film that deserves your attention. He plans to have a pan-India (and later world) through television. For Rubaru Roshni, the production house has tied up with seven regional channels of Star including Star Plus and Star World and will be released on January 26, 2019.
