Rishi Kapoor's boyish charms won him many fans during his initial years. Even in the 90s, when he was considered one of the older actors to be still doing hero roles in movies, Rishi Kapoor was much loved. But he also found many followers for his candid submissions about his life. He had this no-hold-barred attitude towards divulging details about his life that made him come across as genuine and warm. Guess that's why Rishi Kapoor never shied away from playing second fiddle to heroines. Rishi Kapoor Birth Anniversary: Five Candid Confessions By The Late Actor About Raj Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor.

It is very unusual for actors to let their heroines hog the entire limelight. One needs to be extremely secure to have no qualms about it and Rishi Kapoor truly was one such actor. We can prove it with these five films.

Prem Rog

A little girl is married off early to the son of a rich man but unfortunately loses her husband soon enough. Thereon, it's a constant battle for the young girl as she struggles to keep up with society's rules for widows. It was a Padmini Kolhapure film where Rishi Kapoor played her childhood friend who is deeply in love with her. He stands by her as she fights tragic societal norms.

Nagina

Released in 1986, Nagina was reportedly the second highest-grossing film of the year and it was shouldered ably by Sridevi. But without Rishi Kapoor's fantastic support as her hero, the impact wouldn't have been as big.

Damini

One of the most brutal and impactful movies to come out of the 90s, Damini has enlightened and also scarred a few from that generation. Damini is a Meenakshi Sheshadri film where Sunny Deol stole the thunder with his Dhai Kilo Ka Haath. But what many don't discuss is how Rishi Kapoor's character transitioned from a man fraught with dilemma to save his family and go against his wife to come and stand next to her. Kapoor kept it so rich and believable. For us, this was perhaps one of his best performances.

Prem Granth

Yet another great movie from the 90s that doesn't get its due. Madhuri Dixit is a rape victim who starts to build her life and dream of a happy life with Rishi Kapoor. But the past intervenes. This movie is not essentially a love story at all as it focuses on Dixit's rise from the ashes. But by being her support system, Kapoor's character added the integrity the film needed. Madhuri Dixit Relives Memories of 'Prem Granth' on Movie's 25th Anniversary.

Chandni

It was a titular for Sridevi. Even today, people fondly remember Chandni for Sridevi. It's also because of the way Yash Chopra presents her. But without Rishi Kapoor's cranky flawed character, Chandni wouldn't have been the flawed story that it became. When he comes around we empathise with him.
