Renowned folk singer Sharda Sinha, a Padma Bhushan awardee, passed away on November 6, 2024, at the age of 72. She had been battling multiple myeloma, a type of bone marrow cancer, since 2017. She was admitted to AIIMS Delhi on October 25 and reportedly succumbed to refractory shock due to septicemia. Sinha's son Anshuman Sinha confirmed the demise of her mother in a post on Instagram and wrote, "Your prayers and love will always be with mother. She has been called by Chhathi Maiya to her side."
