Renowned folk singer Sharda Sinha passed away on Tuesday (November 5) at Delhi's All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) after being under ventilator support for the past few days. The Padma Bhushan awardee battled myeloma, a rare type of blood cancer, in 2018, for which she was undergoing treatment. Her condition was reported critical, and she succumbed to the disease on Tuesday night. Apart from her Chhath songs, the legendary singer was also popular for her stint in Bollywood. Sharda Sinha has sung some popular tracks in Bollywood, including "Kahe Toh Se Sajna" from Salman Khana and Bhagyasheree's Maine Pyar Kiya (1989), "Babul" in Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit starrer Hum Aapke Hai Koun (1994), "Taar Bijli" in Nawazuddin Siddiquis's Gangs of Wasseypur - Part 2 (2012) and "Kaun Si Nagariya" in Soha Ali Khan's 2014 film Chaarfutiya Chhokare.

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan made his acting debut with Biwi Ho To Aisi in 1988. However, his breakthrough in Bollywood came with Sooraj Barjatya's 1989 musical film Maine Pyar Kiya, co-starring Bhagyashree. After its release, the movie quickly became a crowd favourite and one of the highest-grossing movies of that time. However, you'll be surprised to know about Sharda Sinha's remuneration for the film. The movie, bankrolled by Tarachand Barjatya under Rajshri Productions, was made at a budget of INR 1 crore. The movie shattered several records at that time and collected INR 45.9 crore at the worldwide box office.

Salman Khan was paid INR 30,000 as his acting fees for Maine Pyar Kiya, while his co-star Bhagyshree took home a paycheck of INR 1 lakh. Despite the film's massive success, Sharda Sinha, who crooned the track "Kahe Toh Se Sajna", was paid only INR 76. Post Maine Pyar Kiya, Sinha once again collaborated with director Sooraj Barjatya for the film Hum Aapke Hai Koun. The sad news of Sharda Sinha's passing was first shared on her official X (previously Twitter) by her son, Anshuman Sinha. Sharing a picture of the veteran folk singer, he wrote, "Your prayers and love will always be with mother. Mother has been called by Chhathi Maiya to her side. Mother is no longer amongst us in physical form." PM Narendra Modi consoled the loss of Sharda Sinha with a heartfelt tribute on social media.
