Remembering Atal Bihari Vajpayee: When Shah Rukh Khan Starred in a Music Video Based on Former PM's Poem

Former Prime Minister and one of the most prominent BJP politicians, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, passed away on August 16. He was 93. The much-revered politician has not been keeping well for the past few months. Atal Bihari Vajpayee has served the country as a Prime Minister three times. He was also the first PM to have run a coalition government in India with 26 parties. Vajpayee was also the first President of the newly-formed BJP party from the earlier known Bhartiya Jan Sangh. He was very much respected even by the Opposition leaders and it was during his governance that India had successfully carried out the Pokhran nuclear tests in 1998.

Atal Bihar Vajpayee was also a very popular poet with published works. One of his famous poems, Kya Khoya Kya Paya, was made into a music video in 2002. It was directed by the late Yash Chopra and was sung by the late ghazal singer Jagjit Singh. Shah Rukh Khan had starred in the video, with a preface made in Amitabh Bachchan's famous baritone.

At the time of writing this story, Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan are yet to react to the news of the former PM's demise. However, the current PM, Narendra Modi had tweeted his condolence on losing his mentor. He said, "India grieves the demise of our beloved Atal Ji. His passing away marks the end of an era. He lived for the nation and served it assiduously for decades. My thoughts are with his family, BJP Karyakartas and millions of admirers in this hour of sadness. Om Shanti. It was Atal Ji's exemplary leadership that set the foundations for a strong, prosperous and inclusive India in the 21st century. His futuristic policies across various sectors touched the lives of each and every citizen of India."
