Netflix has nabbed the rights of Richie Mehta's Delhi Crime. The seven-part India-set series, directed by Canada's Richie Mehta, was launched at the Sundance Film Festival. As per a report on Variety, the show has been inspired by and follows the investigation of the grotesque December 2019 gang rape which shook the nation and the world. Delhi Crimes shows the investigation conducted by the Delhi Police, who caught all the convicts of the gang rape.

The idea to work on this subject came across Richie Mehta's mind during a conversation with Neeraj Kumar, the former Commissioner of the Delhi Police. He introduced Mehta to the investigating team, who offered him access to hundreds of pages of legal documents.

In an interview with Scroll.in, Mehta spoke about the gripping series and said, “I realised that there are people at the front lines who deal with these crimes all the time and are really trying their best,” and added, “We do not give them any credit. That is the story I wanted to tell.”The cast of Delhi Crime involves some of the best celebrities in the field, such as Shefali Shah, Adil Hussain, Denzil Smith, Rasika Dugal, Rajesh Tailang and Yashaswini Dayama.

Richie's Delhi Crimes is an honest and emotional retelling of the horrifying crime that was committed to the medical student in a bus. On the same, Netflix director, international originals, stated, “’Delhi Crime’ is honest and emotional and powerful. Shows like this bring a much-needed lens to the lived reality of women around the world.” The show has been jointly produced by Golden Karavan and Ivanhoe Pictures. It is slated to release on Netflix on March 22, 2019.
