From Beti Bacho to Beti Hum Hi Se Bachao--this transition reflects the state of the government, the one the ruling party should be ashamed of. On the close heels of Uttar Pradesh government deciding to withdraw a seven-year-old rape and abduction lawsuit filed against against former MoS Home Swami Chinmayanand, Bollywood actress Richa Chaddha has tweeted to express her agony. The feisty actress made sure that she sends the message with a caustic undercurrent to it. Dear govt, plz change #BetiBachao to #BetiHumHiSeBachao.Your MLAs are making a mockery of your slogan.A victims father is killed in jail?Don’t claim to be #Hindu. You don’t view women as Goddess forms,so end this hypocrisy NOW! #JusticeForAshifa #VarnikaKundu, Tweeted Richa.
The accused Union Minister Swami Chinmayanand was booked for reportedly raping a girl in his ashram. It is pertinent to note that Chinmayanand is a three-time BJP MP. He has also served as the MoS, Home under the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.

In what could be described as an obvious reference to the Unnao rape case in which another BJP MLA was accused of raping a minor, Richa further vents her anger. This incident happened a year ago. The victim and her family members attempted suicide on Saturday morning outside Uttar Pradesh's current Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's residence in order to protest against inaction by the Police.
The police instead of arresting the MLA, took the girl's father into custody. Immediately after that, he died. Reportedly, the victim and her family had reported the incident post which the said MLA's brother allegedly assaulted the victim's father. The victim's father succumbed to these injuries. In this regard there's much outrage being expressed. Richa Chadda's angry tweet is totally justified here and we maintain that more famous and powerful people should come forward to highlight the issue.
