In one of the strangest cases of irony, former CBFC chairman Pahlaj Nihalani found himself getting a taste of his own medicine when his upcoming production, Rangeela Raja, gets in trouble with the Censor Board. When Nihalani was heading the Board, his whimsical ways had created issues for some of the film-makers, who were annoyed with the senseless cuts that his team used to recommend, the biggest victims being Udta Punjab and Lipstick Under My Burkha. Now his film with Govinda has been recommended about 20 cuts. The Board has issues with some of the 'sexist' and 'vulgar' dialogues in the film. Rangeela Raja: Producer Pahlaj Nihalani Gets A Taste of His Own Medicine; To Fight Censor Board in Court Against Cuts in Film.
Pahlaj and his team tried to oppose these cuts given by Prasoon Joshi-led CBFC in the court, but their plea got rejected. As the cuts are not yet accepted by the makers, it is highly unlikely that Rangeela Raja will release on its scheduled date of November 16. Seeing this, fans are trending #BringRangeelaRajaOnNov16 on Twitter. Recently, during a media interaction, the movie's lead star, Govinda accused CBFC and a group in the film industry of having a vendetta against him and his films. He had said. "It has been happening for last nine years where a group of people in the film industry is conspiring against me and not letting my films to release on any good platforms. Either those films are not getting a release or those films are not getting good theatres and screens. The recent example was Fryday which released a few weeks ago and even media gave it a good review. They took the film away from theatres. I stayed silent up till then, but how could they just stop film of a producer like Pahlaj Nihalani ji. He is one of the respected film producers of the industry who has introduced several film stars in Bollywood." Rangeela Raja also stars Digangana Suryavanshi, Mishika Chourasia and Shakti Kapoor.
