Rangeela Raja: Producer Pahlaj Nihalani Gets A Taste of His Own Medicine; To Fight Censor Board in Court Against Cuts in Film
He also alleged that the Board gave preference to Aamir Khan's Thugs of Hindostan over his movie while certifying, even though he had submitted Rangeela Raja more than a month back.
What goes around, comes around. Bollywood producer Pahlaj Nihalani gets a taste of his own medicine when he faced problems with the Censor Board for his upcoming film, Rangeela Raja. As per a report in ANI, the Board has recommended 20 cuts in the film, that has Govinda in the lead. This has not gone down well with Pahlaj, who has decided to fight against the imposition of these cuts in the court. Nihalani has reportedly filed a plea in Bombay High Court against the Prasoon Joshi-led Board over this. What makes the whole saga so ironical is that before Joshi, it was Pahlaj Nihalani who used to head the Censor Board and it was one of the most controversial stints the Board has ever seen. Pahlaj Nihalani was involved in many controversies during his reign at the Board, three of the biggest newsmakers being making James Bond sanskaari in SPECTRE, not giving a certificate to Udta Punjab and Mohalla Assi. He was later shunted from the Board by the I&B Ministry, when the noise of dissent became too loud against his allegedly tyrannical ways.
Earlier, speaking to SpotBoye about the cuts in Rangeela Raja, Pahlaj went on a rant against Prasoon Joshi and his board. he said, "Today, there are so many films where dirty dialogues are said openly and they have been passed. My clean dialogues have been misconstrued as double-meaning dialogues. I am appalled that the Regional Officer Tusshar Karmarkar is just a 35-year old man who has no knowledge about cinema. Did Prasoon Joshi (current Censor Chief) take his interview with his Secretary which is the norm, before appointing him? Plus, Prasoon does not follow the norm that the Censor Committee which sees the film should comprise of 2 men and 2 women; today, there are 3 women and just 1 man in it."

Rangeela Raja, which has Govinda in a double role, was scheduled to release on November 16. However, with Pahlaj going on a legal battle against the Board, we have to wait and watch to see if the movie will make it to the release date.
