Rangeela Raja: Govinda and Pahlaj Nihalani's Film Pushed Indefinitely From December 7 Release - Read Deets

If Fate had stuck to its plans, then Rangeela Raja would have come into the theatres by the mid of November. Unfortunately, it was not to be. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) have raised objections over some of the sexist and vulgar content in the film, and have recommended 20 cuts for the Govinda starrer. Their biggest grouse about the film is that one of Govinda's characters is shown as a perverse character, who is unrepentant in his actions and therefore the movie would give a wrong message to the kids (Hasn't the CBFC heard of 'A' rating that disallows kids from watching this kind of films?). Rangeela Raja: Govinda's Character an Unrepentant Rapist? CBFC Reveals The Real Reason Why They Demanded Cuts From Pahlaj Nihalani's Film.

Rangeela Raja's release date had been postponed, as the producers took to the court to fight against the cuts in the film. The tentative release date for the film to come out was scheduled to December 7, where it would have clashed with Sushant Singh Rajput and Sara Ali Khan's Kedarnath. However, Rangeela Raja is not going to release on December 7 as well, as its release date is now indefinitely postponed. The reason?  Rangeela Raja has still not got the censor certificate and the producer is still appealing against it with the FCAT (Film Certification Appellate Tribunal). The new release date will only be announced after that. However seeing how December is packed with big releases, it is unlikely that Rangeela Raja will release this year. It’s Not a Good Environment in the Film Industry, Says Govinda on CBFC Opposing His Film ‘Rangeela Raja’.

Ironically, Rangeela Raja's producer is Pahlaj Nihalani, whose infamous reign as the Censor Board chief for two years was considered as one of the worst phases for free speech in Indian cinema. Quite a couple of films have to appeal to FCAT to get a censor certificate when Nihalani's panel refuses to give them one. Wonder how's Nihalani feeling being on the receiving end this time!
