The pressure of being at the top of the pecking order can be stressful for our Bollywood A-listers, and Ranbir Kapoor is no exception. The Kapoor scion had tasted fame very early on in his life and also had to endure all the baggage of the glitzy and glamorous movie star life. In his recent interview with GQ, Ranbir made news for confirming his relationship with Raazi actress Alia Bhatt. But he also made another stunning admission about his long-drawn battle with smoking – a habit he picked up in his mid-teens.
Calling smoking “the worst kind of addiction,” Ranbir revealed that he quit the habit four months ago. But despite quitting, he still finds himself rolling a cig or two a day since a month. “It’s something I’m scared of, because I have been a nicotine addict since I was 15, and it’s the worst kind of addiction,” he revealed during the interview.
In the past, the actor has been seen with a cigarette in his hand. He was also snapped at New York, while he stepped out for a smoke with Pakistani actress Mahira Khan. The fact that the two were seen smoking ruffled a lot of feathers on both sides of the border. Coincidentally, Ranbir is also the star of Sanju where he will be playing actor Sanjay Dutt who has himself struggled with addictions in his youth.
In his own words, Ranbir revealed that he didn’t have the willpower to give up smoking. He confessed in the interview that he took trips to Austria where he endured injections in his ears (ouch!) when he tried quitting for the first time. He was talking about the spot smoking injections where a combination of medicines are injected either on the hip, arm or behind the ears, to block the nicotine receptors and reduce nicotine withdrawal symptoms.
He also admits that vaping, as a smoking substitute, didn’t work for him either. “You can’t leave one habit for another. Eventually, it’ll just come back more ferociously, he says.
