Just 8 years back, director-duo Abbas-Mustan came up with an amazing thriller named ‘Race’. The film starred Saif Ali Khan, Bipasha Basu, Akshaye Khanna and Katrina Kaif in the lead. The film took us on a roller coaster ride with its own set of twists and turns. Then came Race 2. (let’s not talk about it though). After these two installments, Abbas Mustan were replaced by Remo D’Souza and Saif was replaced by Salman Khan for Race 3 and the whole game changed. The movie is entirely a standard ‘bhai ki picture’, well, at least as per the latest trailer out. Apart from all the Salman Khan fans, rest all might be terribly missing the first memories of Race franchise that actually made us demand the next installments. Here are the major differences between the original film and its third installment.

Thriller or Action?

Race was full of mind games and that’s exactly the USP of this franchise. The love-hate relationship between two brothers turned cold as ice but the revenge was taken only with cunning ideas and not rifles and bombs. Contrary to this, Race 3 is full of action sequences. The protagonists are given respective weapons (knife, gun, bomb etc) which they take out on uttering each dialogue. No mind games this time?

Salman Khan aka Sikander= Race 3

We all know how the og movie was a complicated maze with all the four characters related to each other in unimaginable ways. The film would be incomplete if any of those would be missing. Race 3 is all about BHAI. Because bhai himself declares, ‘Jiss Race se mujhe nikaalne ki baat kar rahe hai bewakoof, woh nahi jaante, uss Race ka Sikander main hoon’. A clear give away. We know who’s gonna win!

No Robert D’ Costa or his ‘fal’.

In the brain-teasing Race film, there was this fun character, an inspector called Robert D’Costa (Anil Kapoor). He was a chilled-out cop who used his wit, his hot yet dumb secretary and his favourite fruit to solve the case. In Race 3, there is no such cop. In fact, Anil will be playing a rich businessman and a dad of two over ambitious kids. To top it all, he also indulges in some action scenes himself. We miss you RD!

Director Change, Cast Change, Script Change!

Well, to sum it all, we can safely say that only the title of the film and the signature ‘Allah Duhai Hai’ theme song are the common factors of the franchise. I wonder what difference it would make if the movie was an independent one without the tag of ‘Race’ to it! None, I suppose!

Well, it’s a new team this time for the highly anticipated Race 3 and we are still excited to watch how the film impresses the audience. If not, we always have an option to buy a DVD of the original flick and restore the memories of a good thriller.
