Alia Bhatt is playing a spy in Meghna Gulzar's upcoming movie, Raazi that is co-produced by her mentor, Karan Johar. Raazi is based on a true life story that has been a subject of a book, Calling Sehmat. Spy movies with realism have been a rare attempt in Bollywood, though we would like to point out Rishi Kapoor and Irrfan Khan's nearly excellent D-Day in the genre. We do hope that Raazi is a nice addition to that, at least that's what the trailers had promised us.
The movie is about how Sehmati, a young Indian girl is married to a Pakistani military officer, played by the talented Vicky Kaushal, but is a spy who has to latch on the happenings in the Pakistani camp and report to the Indian army. The latest song, Dilbaro, is about her getting married to the officer and leaving her parents' home for her husband's. The song narrates the emotional turmoil a girl has to go through when she leaves her parents' house, with some beautiful lyrics by Gulzar. Though the song may not mention it, there is also the added context that Raazi has an additional burden of taking the risk spying on her husband. Rajat Kapoor and Alia's real-life mother Soni Razdan play her parents.
Dilbaro is composed by Shankar Ehsaan Loy and is sung by Harshdeep Kaur, Vibha Saraf and Shankar Mahadevan. Check out the song below -
Raazi also stars Shishir Sharma, Jaideep Ahlawat and Amruta Khanvilkar. The movie produced by Vineet Jain, Karan Johar, Hiroo Yash Johar and Apoorva Mehta under the banner of Dharma Productions, is scheduled to release on May 11.
