It was a proud moment for India on August 25 as PV Sindhu defeated Japan's Nozomi Okuhara in straight games to lift the coveted title of Women's Single World Badminton Championship and bagged the Gold medal. It is a huge honour and Sindhu had come close to winning at the World Championship in the past two years and finally made the milestone achievement on Sunday, August 26. In 2013, PV Sindhu made her maiden appearance at the World Championships. She managed to beat the defending champion and reigning Olympic silver medallist Wang Yihan of China in the third round and went on to win the bronze.
