Udit Narayan is a popular playback singer, a four time National Films Award winner. He has crooned to some of the hit Hindi songs and has also sung in various other regional languages as we. The singer has been in buzz in these recent days over a threatening call that he has been receiving from unknown numbers. In an interview to a leading daily, Udit Narayan has revealed that he has been getting death threatening calls from unknown numbers, not once but thrice and that’s how he decided to lodge a police complaint. In an interview to Bombay Times Bollywood’s playback singer Udit Naraya shared, “On April 6, 2019, I got a call from an unknown number at 6.59 am. The man said, ‘Tumhare poore parivaar ko khatam kar doonga.’ I panicked. After looking up the number, the name appeared as Maucha. Post that, I kept trying that number several times, but it was either unavailable or switched off. I never got a call from the same number again, but a couple of other phone calls disturbed me.” He further said, “I asked my manager to lodge a complaint at the Amboli Police Station. But abhi tak kuch pata nahin chal paaya hai.”

Udit Narayan also mentioned that the second call he received was on July 17, 2019 while he was getting ready for the shooting of the reality show, Superstar Singer. Apparently the caller labelled himself to be a gangster and also used abusive words. The singer said, “‘Extortion money chahiye. Main Ravi Pujari (gangster) hoon.’ I felt it was fake because Ravi Pujari is in jail. I was upset even before the shoot started and that stayed with me throughout the shoot.”

After these disturbing calls, Udit Narayan received a call from a man called Hussain Ali who he reportedly knows since few years. The singer revealed to BT that Hussain is from Darbhanga in Bihar and Udit used to help him whenever needed. It was shocking for the singer to receive threatening messages from him. Udit Narayan was quoted saying, “His calls became frequent in the last two months. When my manager asked him to stop calling, as that would disturb us, he sent a few threatening texts using inappropriate language.”

Udit Narayan who is highly disturbed and worried with these calls, filed a police complaint at the Amboli Police Station who have transferred the case to anti-extortion cell (AEC). Bharat Gaikwad, Senior Police Inspector was quoted saying, “Mr Udit Narayan did lodge a complaint with us. We recorded the statement and have transferred the case to the AEC of the Mumbai Crime branch. They will now take it forward.” Stay tuned for further updates.
