The Lunchbox was one of the most unexpected romances that we have seen in Indian cinema. Now, Ritesh Batra, writer and director, is back to tug at our heartstrings with yet another unusual love story. The first trailer of his upcoming film, titled Photograph, dropped today. The romantic drama stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Sanya Malhotra in lead roles. As the title suggests the plot of the film is set into motion with a 'photograph'. Nawazuddin plays a photographer hawking around Gateway of India in Mumbai, trying to talk tourists into getting a picture clicked with the monument. Photograph is not a love-at-first-sight story for Sanya and Nawazuddin, as any other directors would want this one to be. In Ritesh's story, the love comes to a boil once the story starts simmering over a lie. Sanya and Nawazuddin bring naturality in this otherwise 'it doesn't happen like that' story. One character in the movie objects how can a guy like Nawazuddin score a girl like Sanya. There is no Bareilly Ki Barfi-level dialoguebaazi here in retaliation. Instead, that is the last scene of the trailer. It successfully leaves you with a smile on your face, wondering if Sanya and Nawaz's story is able to break this stereotype.
Photograph has already had its world premiere at the prestigious Berlin Film Festival. The movie was loved by the critics there. Photograph opens in theaters on March 15 in India.
