As a director, Vishal Bhardwaj is known for his serious fare like Maqbool, Haider, Omkara, Rangoon etc, but he has also tried his hand at making you laugh. His Makdee and Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola were light-hearted flicks, while Kaminey was one of the best dark comedies made in Bollywood. Now with his upcoming movie, Pataakha, we could see Vishal at his light-hearted best. Pataakha stars Sanya Malhotra, Radhika Madan, Sunil Grover and Vijay Raaz in the lead.
Pataakha is based on Charan Singh Pathik’s short story Do Behnein and is about sibling rivalry. So the trailer shows how Radhika and Sanya's characters, who are sisters, are always at each other's throats, much to the changrin of their over-bearing father played by Vijay Raaz. There is Sunil Grover who is the sisters' common friend, and also a Narad Muni of sorts, trying to create fights between them. The trailer then shows how the father tries to get one of them married to a wealthy pervert to save them out of poverty, only for both the daughters and co-incidentally land up as daughters-in-law at the same house! Namit Das and Abhishek Duhan also star.

Initially, the movie was called Chooriyan, before the makers chose to go with Pataakha. Speaking about his actresses in an earlier interview, Vishal Bhardwaj had this to say, "We already knew that Sanya is a very good actor but Radhika was a revelation. They had to gain eight to 10 kgs which they did within a month. In one shot you see them weighing 50 kgs, in the very next shot as we fade out they are ten kgs heavier. It’s a great cinematic high!" Pataakha will release on September 28.
