Vinesh Phogat scripted history on Tuesday (August 6) after she became the first Indian wrestler to reach an Olympic final at the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024. Phogat defeated Cuba's Yusneylys Guzman in the semi-final match. The 29-year-old wrestler was also a leading face during the protests against former Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Actress-politician Kangana Ranaut took a jibe at the wrestler and credited the country's "democracy" for her victory. Taking to her Instagram stories, the BJP MP wrote, "Fingers crossed for India's first gold medal. Vinesh Phogat at one point took part in protests where she raised the slogans of 'Modi teri khabar khudegi'. Yet she was given the opportunity to represent the nation and best of training, coaches and facilities. Beauty of democracy and a great leader." Vinesh Phogat will face USA's Sarah Hildebrandt in the finals on August 7. Vinesh Phogat Ensures Medal For India As She Enters Women's 50 Kg Freestyle Wrestling Final in Paris Olympics 2024.
