Ashutosh Gowarikar's period drama Panipat is all set to hit the big screens in India on December 6. The Arjun Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, Kriti Sanon film has impressed the audiences already with its official trailer that's getting praises for its grandeur. The film is based on the historic Third Battle of Panipat when the Maratha army took on the Afghani invaders. Panipat stars Arjun Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Sanjay Dutt in the lead. Its supporting cast includes Mohnish Bahl, Padmini Kolhapure, Zeenat Aman, Sahil Salathia and Kunal Kapoor among others

Story

Panipat is set in the 18th century where the Marathas had built one of the strongest empires in entire India. It is confronted by Afghan King Ahmad Shah Abdali (Sanjay Dutt) who plans to take over the Maratha Peshwa kingdom by going against Sadashiv Rao Bhau (Arjun Kapoor).

Considering the grand scale of this period saga, Panipat is made on an estimated budget of Rs 70 crores including the print and advertising cost. The film needs to cross the Rs 120 crores mark to be a super hit.

Box-office Prediction

Period drama films open to good numbers in Bollywood, whether it was 2018 magnum opus Padmaavat or 2017 hit Bajirao Mastani. LatestLY predicts Panipat's opening day box-office numbers to be somewhere around Rs 5 - 7 crores. The film would cross the Rs 20 crores mark in its opening weekend.
