Padman Box Office Report Day 2: Akshay Kumar-Sonam Kapoor's Movie Steady on Saturday, BO Collections 23.94 Crores in Two Days
The film based on Arunachalam Muruganantham, inventor of low-cost sanitary napkins in the country released this Friday i.e. February 9, 2018.
The Day 2 box office report of Padman, one of 2018’s most ambitious movies starring Akshay Kumar is out and the numbers on Saturday look way better than the opening day box office collection. The movie also starring Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte has collected Rs 13.68 crores to take up the two days’ total to Rs 23.94 crores. The film based on Arunachalam Muruganantham, inventor of low-cost sanitary napkins in the country released this Friday i.e. February 9, 2018. It has generated a lot of curiosity among movie buffs as a Bollywood mainstream actor took up a subject, menstrual hygiene, still considered a taboo topic and star in it. Padman Box Office Report Day 1: Akshay Kumar's Latest Movie off to Unimpressive Start with BO Collection Rs 10.26 Crores.
Movie critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to his Twitter account to give domestic box office figures of Padman. He writes, ‘#PadMan makes RAPID STRIDES on Sat... Picks up SPEED... Biz should be STRONG on Sun too... HEALTHY weekend is on the cards... Fri 10.26 cr, Sat 13.68 cr. Total: ₹ 23.94 cr. India biz.’ Now, the second-day growth will certainly bring a smile on Akshay Kumar and Co’s faces especially after failing to get the kind of response they anticipated with first-day box office collection. On Day 1, Padman made a modest Rs 10.26 crores, a humble number compared to the last big release at the box office – Padmaavat, which did a phenomenal job and in fact continues to do so.
There were a lot of conjectures regarding the release of Padman mainly due to Padmaavat, the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor courting a number of controversies one after another. After the two films were slated for a box office clash, director R Balki-helmed Padman decided to make way for the solo release of Padmaavat and not cannibalize each other’s collections. While Padmaavat has definitely gained from the move and has successfully entered the celebrated 200-crore club (it has earned Rs 239.50 crores on Day 17), one has to wait and watch for Padman’s fate at the box office.
Akshay Kumar is one of the most profitable actors in Bollywood hoping that great content along with earnest performances would win in case of Padman. The 50-year-old actor has given a string of blockbusters in recent times like Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, Jolly LLB 2, Airlift, Rustom, Housefull 3 and so many more. With a strong Sunday business, Padman should touch Rs 50-crore mark over the first weekend.
