After all the controversy, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's much-delayed film Padmaavat has released. The film has not released in four major states- Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar but in other parts of the country it is smooth sailing, doing a very good business. On the very first day, the film made a box-office collection of Rs. 19 crore. The curiosity levels among the ardent fans were already high so even the paid previews had got a good response adding to Rs. 5 crore of business.
The long weekend has proved to the smoother sail of the film over the weekend. The latest figures show that the film has crossed Rs. 50 crore in 3 days of its release. The film has been getting praises from everyone and more and more people want to watch it. Although the Karni Sena protests did cause an initial fear of going to the theatres, the box-office collections state otherwise.
#Padmaavat has a HUMONGOUS Day 2... Had it been a smooth release [some states are not screening the film], the all-India biz would’ve touched ₹ 40 cr... Wed 5 cr, Thu 19 cr, Fri 32 cr. Total: ₹ 56 cr. India biz… SUPERB!

The periodic drama film is based on Rani Padmavati (Deepika Padukone) wife of Mahrawal Ratan Singh (Shahid Kapoor) and her tale of valour in the 13th century. It also focuses on the siege of Alauddin Khilji (Ranveer Singh) and how Padmavati tackled him. After huge protests and court hearings later, the film has released and the collections are speaking for itself. But it is a thing to note, had it released smoothly from the start and in all states, the film would have definitely got much response and better figures. Let us see how the film continues to do over the weekend.
