Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh are savoring the sweetness of Padmaavat’s success. Sanjay Leela Bhansali decided to make a film on an epic poem written in 1540 by Sufi poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi called ‘Padmavat’ and the rest is history. After constant protests and controversies (which are still going on, by the way) the film has managed to get hold on the box office collections gracefully. On Day 7, the film raked in Rs 12.50 crores which has helped the total collections rise to Rs 155.50 crores, as per trade analyst, Taran Adarsh.

The movie has garnered a lot of appreciation from the mass as well as the critics. The cast recently also celebrated the victory when the flick entered the prestigious 100 crore club. DP also had a Rajasthani lunch as a mark of film’s success. Talking about all the sweat that trickled down for the period drama, Shahid Kapoor was quoted saying by the media, “We missed out on a lot of things. We had to make lots of sacrifices. We had to learn to keep a lot of emotions in our hearts for one-and-a-half years in check. We had to be politically correct. The film had to go through a lot. But, today we feel vindicated".

On the other hand, Veere Di Wedding actress Swara Bhasker recently wrote an open letter, slamming Bhansali for glorifying the practice of ‘Jauhar’. She stated in her letter that ‘she felt reduced to a vagina’ after watching the movie. However, SLB reacted to it saying that the context, era and the totality of the film should be taken into consideration. He also questioned whether Swara was doubting Queen Padmavati’s decision then? Well, let us accept that Padmaavat has become controversy’s favourite child and it is going to continue making news for weeks to come!
