Padmaavat Banned in Madhya Pradesh And Gujarat: Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Period Film in Troubled Waters
After Rajasthan, Deepika Padukone- Ranveer Singh's magnum opus faces hurdle in MP and Gujarat.
Deepika Padukone starrer Padmaavat is taking too long to see the light of the day. The period-drama engulfed in multiple controversies is facing hurdles at every step before its slated release on January 25. Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus was earlier banned in Rajasthan on the orders of Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje. Now other states like Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat have also joined the bandwagon. Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani have declared a ban on the release of the cinema in the respective states. Chouhan told the reporters, “Jo kaha hai wahi hoga [whatever I said earlier would continue to remain in force].”
Meanwhile, the Karni Sena supporters recently created a ruckus outside the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) office in Mumbai. The state police detained 96 protestors who gheraoed the film certification office. The protests followed after CBFC granted the UA certificate to the movie along with minor modifications.
President of Karni Sena, Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi was quoted saying, “The CBFC which has been running ever since the time of Britishers doesn't know how to work. From the past one and a half year, we have been talking peacefully but now it is time to take up the path of aggression,” reported Zee News.
Meanwhile, Goa police suggested the government to ban the movie in the state. The petition letter reasoned that the personnel is engaged in security activities due to tourist season. However, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar stated that the decision is yet to be taken on the same. Sanjay Leela Bhansali directed period film stars Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Jim Sarbh and Aditi Rao Hydari in the lead. Padmaavat is slated to release on January 25.
