Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat finally managed to squeeze in through all the controversies around it and got itself a release date of January 25, 2018. They released two amazing trailers adhering to new suggestions made by Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). However, the offended ones continue to remain offended. The Deepika Padukone-Ranveer Singh-Shahid Kapoor starrer did not manage to impress the government of several states. Even though Twitter is flooded with words of appreciation for the masterwork, a string of states will not allow the release of this much-delayed period drama. The latest state to ban Padmaavat’s release is Haryana. Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij tweeted, “Film Padmavati/Padmavat banned in Haryana.” There are three more states who blatantly refused to screen the film.

Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan were the first few who debarred the release of SLB’s flick. Gujarat’s Minister of State for Home Pradipsinh Jadeja issued a notification saying, “In exercise conferred by sub-section 1 of section 6 of the Act, Government of Gujarat hereby imposes the ban on Hindi feature film 'Padmaavat'...No cinema owners or distributors shall exhibit the said movie in any cinema/multiplex/ video cinema/touring cinema within the jurisdiction of Gujarat.”

Rajasthan’s CM Vasundhara Raje too banned the film saying, “Queen Padmini's sacrifice is deeply linked to the state's glory and honour, she is not just a figure in history for us but a symbol of our pride. We will not let her dignity be tarnished at any cost.” Likewise, the state of Madhya Pradesh will also be not screening the show.

It remains a question whether the fans of these states are willing to watch the film or not. Needless to pen, the ban will affect the box office collections of this masterpiece, but the fans are still relieved that it is being released after a lot of hurdles. But the big question remains despite the green signal from CBFC, the film has to undergo such troubled times. Do you think it is fair to ban the magnum opus for an entire state?
