Is Hansal Mehta making his own little cinematic universe? That's what comes to our mind when we find out he is making Omerta, based on the life of the dreaded terrorist mastermind, Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh. The character based in him had appeared in Hansal's earlier movie, Shahid, where he was played by Mere Dad Ki Maruti fame Prabal Panjabi. In Omerta. Rajkummar Rao, who was the lead in Shahid, will take on the role in Omerta.

Playing vile characters isn't something new to Rajkummar Rao, as he has done such roles in movies like Love, Sex Aur Dhoka and Ragini MMS. However, going by the recently revealed trailer of Omerta, there is a chance that these previous characters will pale before what the National award winning actor has done in Hansal Mehta's latest movie. So Rajkummar Rao is Omar Saeed Sheikh, who as per Wikipedia is a 'British terrorist of Pakistani descent with links to various Islamist militant organisations, including Jaish-e-Mohammed, Al-Qaeda, Harkat-ul-Mujahideen and the Taliban'. The trailer travails his ascension from being a common man with radical ideas to being one of the most dreaded men on Earth.

The Omerta trailer also hints at the various terrorist conspiracies Sheikh was a part of from the 1994 kidnappings of Western tourists in India, 2001 WTC attacks, the kidnapping and killing of journalist Daniel Pearl, and of course, the 2008 Mumbai attacks. Omerta looks like another winning role for Rao, who is has showing quite a new range for himself as an actor here.

All in all, Omerta looks to be another critical winner from the successful combo of Hansal Mehta and Rajkummar Rao. The movie had impressed the foreign press during its run at the various Film festivals, with major praise going to Rajkummar Rao's performance. Can't wait for April 20 to come, for that's the date when Omerta will release in a theatre near you.
