Like Salman Khan - Ali Abbas Zafar and Ajay Devgn - Rohit Shetty, Rajkummar Rao and Hansal Mehta make quite a wonderful actor-director combo, even if they don't achieve Golmaal Again like success. All their three collaborations till now have won over the critics, be it Shahid (that gave Rajkummar Rao his first National Award), CityLights and Aligarh. And now they are coming together for what is Hansal Mehta's most ambitious movie, Omerta.
Omerta is based on the life of one of the most dreaded terrorist masterminds in the world, Omar Saeed Sheikh. Sheikh has been linked with some of the deadliest terror strikes like the 26/11 WTC attacks, the kidnapping and murder of American journo Daniel Pearl and Mumbai terror attacks. Rajkummar Rao is playing Sheikh in the movie, and the chameleonic actor has managed to slip into the role effortlessly. Playing negative roles is nothing new for Rao, who has started his career doing character with grey shades in movies like Love, Sex Aur Dhokha and Ragini MMS. But here he has managed to bring in a chilling demeanour to his character, a never seen before trait in his previous movies.
As the new trailer announces, Rao is pure evil in Omerta. Check out the promo below -
Interestingly, the character of Omar Saeed Sheikh had popped in Shahid, where he was played by Prabal Panjabi. In that movie, he was seen unsuccessfully trying to brainwash Shahid Azmi, played by Rao, when the latter was in jail and the former was also a convict there. In the above trailer too, we can see glimpses of Sheikh's jail-time.
Omerta had won a lot of adulations during its international festival circuit. The movie was earlier supposed to come out in India on April 20, but thanks to certain issues with Censor Board, will now be arriving on May 4. It will clash with 102 Not Out at the box office.
