Regarded as one of the finest actresses of her time, Nutan was known for playing unconventional roles that were loved by the audiences. June 4 marks the 88th birth anniversary of the late actress. The actress was launched on the big screen as a child artist in the 1950 film Hamari Beti. She was just 14 at the time of her debut. The film was directed and produced by her mother Shobhana Samarth. It also marked the debut of her younger sister, Tanuja. Though debuting in Hamari Beti, her first big break was in the 1955 film Seema, for which she won her first Filmfare Award for Best Actress.

Most Awarded Female Actor

Nutan holds the record for the most-awarded actress at Filmfare with five wins. The feat is matched only by her niece, Kajol, who equalled the numbers in 2011.

Nutan Was Also a Pageant Winner

Nutan’s Love for Pets

Despite her husband's love for hunting, Nutan was a big pet lover. At one point, the actress had 22 dogs. According to her son Mohnish, the actress would look after each one individually. Nutan's favourite pet was a poodle named Cupid, who accompanied the actress everywhere.
