But is Chhichhore really Sushant Singh Rajput's highest-grossing film to date? Actually, no. There was another film starring Sushant that did stupendous business at the box office - both in India, as well as overseas, that earns that distinction. The only thing is Sushant wasn't the lead in the film. Did you guess? Yup, it is PK. The social dramedy, starring Aamir Khan and Anushka Sharma in the lead, was directed by Rajkumar Hirani. The movie went on to earn more than Rs 300 crore at the box office (Rs 340 crore, as per Bollywood Hungama).
In the film, Sushant had a small role, playing Anushka Sharma's Pakistani boyfriend, who gets separated from her due to a silly misunderstanding. They later reunite in the climax of the film, giving the titular PK (Aamir Khan) his moral victory over the villains. Sushant had a sequence and a song in the movie, before appearing in the climax of the film. PK's box office success credit definitely goes to Aamir and Rajkumar Hirani, with Sushant's role being more of an extended cameo. But if you really look at the films that Sushant had played the lead, then Chhichhore comes first, followed by MS Dhoni: The Untold Story. The same year comes Sushant Singh Rajput's another hit titled Shuddh Desi Romance alongside Parineeti Chopra and debutant Vaani Kapoor. In 2018, Kedarnath that introduced Sara Ali Khan to Bollywood raked Rs 66.52 crore lifetime collection.
At the moment, Sushant has Mukesh Chhabra's Dil Bechara, an official adaptation of the Hollywood film, The Fault in our Stars, and Karan Johar's Netflix release Drive under the pipeline.
