When we heard a small sample of the Dilbar remake in the Satyameva Jayate trailer, we knew a rage was on its way. Rage it was. Dilbar was the remake of the hit '90s number from the movie Sirf Tum. The revamped version featured Nora Fatehi's slick dance moves, instead of Sushmita Sen. The new number also added an oomph of Arabic beats. And when it released, voila, India had got its most popular number of the year 2018. We are not just saying that for effect. The official numbers are out and indeed Dilbar from Satyameva Jayate was the most popular song on Google. Read on.
Dilbar was rehashed by Tanishk Bagchi, who has become Bollywood's go-to person when it comes to song remakes. The song was crooned by Neha Kakkar and Dhvani Bhanushali, who both added sultry energy to the vocals. Ikka and his rap added more power and a faster tempo to it. It takes a universal intervention, to get a combo so perfect. Talking about the popularity of the song Nora had once said, "It's a life-changing feeling. I didn't expect the kind of response I am getting right now, it's been a phenomenal feedback and the numbers are just going higher and higher every day. It's quite shocking, it's a turning point in my career and I am just grateful and happy to see this happening,"
Dilbar has beaten songs like Dil Diyan Gallan, Buzz, Despacito in India. The third most Googled song was Tera Fitoor from a very forgettable film, Genius. Yes, even we were surprised by this.
Dilbar remake topped music charts such as Saavn, Gaana.com, iTunes, Radio Mirchi Top 20 and so on. The popularity of the song also led Nora Fatehi to remake the song. Once again.
While we are totally happy and stoked up about listening to Dilbar 10,000 times more, there is something very sad about it. The popularity of this remake will only prompt Bollywood to fish out more melodies from the past and retune them. There is still time to move forward to the era of originals, it seems.
