Ashvin Kumar is one of the rare few Indian film-makers nominated at the Oscars, him for his short film, Little Terrorist. Kumar returns to the subject of terrorism and militancy now in Kashmir, with his feature-length film, No Fathers in Kashmir. The movie has been struggling to release in India for nearly a year, thanks to its sensitive setting. After all, Kashmir has always been a contentious subject for India, hasn't it, especially when it has themes of militancy in it. But No Fathers in Kashmir is much more than a stark view of the troubles happening in the state. It is also a budding love story between the Indo-British girl Noor and a Kashmiri boy Majid. Noor comes to Kashmir in search of her missing father, and Majid who has fallen for her doe-eyed beauty helps her out, The trailer of the film shows her how their search leads them to various interesting characters, from a fanatical leader, played by Kumar himself, to a military officer, played by Anshuman Jha.

Zara Webb and Shivan Raina play the leads in No Fathers in Kashmir, while the movie also stars Soni Razdan (whose daughter Alia Bhatt helped a lot in promoting the film), Kulbushan Kharbanda and Sushil Dahiya. The movie was stuck in a long battle between the makers and the Censor Board. No Fathers in Kashmir NOT Banned by CBFC; the Censorship Body ‘Disappointed with Misinformation Being Spread’.
While Kumar claimed that the CBFC has refused to certify the film, Censor Board head Prasoon Joshi reveals that they had given an A certificate to the film. Well, things have later been sorted out and No Fathers in Kashmir is now releasing on April 5.
