Bollywood actress Neha Dhupia, famous for her interactive celebrity talk show No Filter Neha recently opened up about the sexism in South film industry. The 39-year old bluntly talked about the patriarchy in the cinema down south by sharing an incident that proves sexism in the south industry is pretty much evident. Speaking to Pinkvilla, Neha said “I think long time back when I was doing a South film, they always insisted on feeding the hero first and I would just be like ‘I am hungry’ and they would be like, ‘But he is in a shot and he will pick up the plate first’. Bizarre things like that would happen.” Mardaani 2 Movie Review: A Fantastic Rani Mukerji Tackles Perversity and Patriarchy in This Solid Investigative Thriller
Although she didn't get into the details pertaining to the film or the actor whom she was talking about, she did add it is no more that way now. She further added “But that was many years ago. It was very archaic and things like that don’t happen anymore. It happened once on a set with me and I just laughed it off. It really did not bother me because I was just like ‘OK fine. I’ll just sit around." It is clear that out of the experiences of the Helicopter Eela actor, we just got a glimpse of the patriarchy in South industry as many voices hasn't been raised so far.
