While Eid, Diwali, Independence Day, Republic Day, and Christmas are holiday seasons that have been claimed by Bollywood stars for their movies, Navratri still is an untapped territory.
The festival season in India not only means harmony, food and celebration but also that Bollywood will offer us some wholesome entertainment we wait for all year long. While Eid, Diwali, Independence Day, Republic Day, and Christmas are holiday seasons that have been claimed by Bollywood stars for their movies, Navratri still is an untapped territory. It was not until last year when big movies started to release during the festive season. With some big movies lined up for this Navratri season as well, it is a good time to look back at former Navratri releases to see how they fared at the box office.
October 5- October 13, 2013
War Chhod Na Yaar - The comedy about the war was the only release worth mentioning. It was able to rake in Rs 6.34 crore over the course of its run in India.
September 25 - October 3, 2014
Bang Bang! - Hrithik Roshan's action-comedy was a profitable venture. It managed to collect over Rs 141 crore in India.
Haider- Released alongside Bang Bang, this Shahid Kapoor was not as lucky. Despite being overwhelmingly loved by the critics, the movie did not do well at the box office. It only managed to rake in Rs 49 crore (approx.).
October 13 - October 21, 2015
Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 - The comedy is the only one worth mentioning. The movie, despite the immense hype, was only able to rake in a little over Rs 60 crore. But given its budget of Rs 22 crore, this was a success for the makers.
October 1- October 10, 2016
Mirzya - The only hype around the movie was the fact that it was Anil Kapoor's son Harshvardhan Kapoor's debut. It tanked and how. Against a budget of over Rs 63 crore, MIrzya was only able to collect Rs 7.92 crore.
Tutak Tutak Tutiya - The less we talk about this movie, the better it is. It only managed to collect Rs 4.72 crore against a budget of Rs 11 crore.
September 21 - September 29, 2017
Bhoomi - Despite having the hype of being Sanjay Dutt's comeback film, Bhoomi did not perform well. It collected Rs 9.42 crore against a budget of Rs 31 crore.
Newton - Rajkummar Rao's Newton was, let's admit it, festival circuit film. India is still a long way from the day when movies like Newton would make it big at the box office. Newton was able to collect Rs 22 crore.
Haseena Parkar - Shraddha Kapoor's gangster drama was a disaster. The movie only raked in Rs 6.61 crore.
Judwaa 2 - The Varun Dhawan starrer comedy turned out to be one of the biggest hits of the year. It raked in more than Rs 132 crore.
