National Film Awards 2019: Ayushmann Khurrana and Tabu's AndhaDhun Wins Best Film in Hindi Language, Best Actor, Adapted Screenplay
The 66th National Film awards were announced on August 9, 2019, by film-maker Rahul Rawail, who is heading the jury.
Sriram Raghavan's AndhaDhun has been hailed as one of the best Bollywood films of 2018. The black comedy with thriller elements had Ayushmann Khurrana, Radhika Apte and Tabu in the lead. AndhaDhun has been winning honours left, right and centre at many film award functions. And now it has also been honoured by National Film Awards 2019 with Best Film in Hindi Language. It also won the Adapted Screenplay Award for Raghavan, Arijit Biswas, Pooja Ladha Surti, Yogesh Chandekar and Hemanth Rao. What's more, Ayushmann Khurrana won his first-ever Best Actor award for his performance in the movie. As for any confusion about why AndhaDhun got an Adapted Screenplay Award, it because the movie is adapted from a 2010 French short film, L'Accordeur (The Piano Tuner).
AndhaDhun has Ayushmann Khurrana play a pianist who pretends to be a pianist so that he can connect with his music. In his attempt to convince others of being blind, he comes across a murder scene involving a failed actor and his seductress wife.
