Nana Patekar Speaks Out in Support of Farmers Again, Says ‘Only Loan Waivers Will Not Resolve Farmer Suicides Issue in Maharashtra’

During an open interview session at an event in Chinchwad in Pune on Wednesday, the actor said that farmers were not beggars and along with waivers, they need emotional support.

Mumbai, January 23: Nana Patekar, veteran Bollywood actor on Thursday spoke in support of the farmers of Maharashtra again and said only loan waivers would not resolve the issue of farmers’ suicide in drought-hit areas of Maharashtra. "It is okay if political leaders don't give money to farmers. They don't only need loan waivers, they need emotional support & encouragement.   We need to talk to them. Farmers are not beggars", Patekar said.

In September 2015, Patekar and another actor Makrand Anaspure had distributed cheques of financial aid to as many as 113 families of farmers of Maharashtra. The two actors had helped the families from Latur and Osmanabad districts of Marathwada, who had committed suicides due to drought conditions in the state and indebtedness.
