Mission Impossible - Fallout: Dear Tom Cruise, When Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Hrithik Roshan Did These MI Stunts Before You - Watch Videos
Tom Cruise might be surprised to know that there are certain stunts that Indian cinema legends have done before him! No, we are not kidding!
With Mission: Impossible - Fallout, Tom Cruise returns again with yet another crazy, adrenaline-fuelled adventure of IMF (Impossible Missions Force) agent Ethan Hunt. Based on a television series of the '60s by the same name, the movie franchise began its journey in 1996 when the world was introduced to Ethan Hunt and Tom Cruise's love for crazy, but still realistically portrayed stunts. Now we are five movies in and the sixth movie, Fallout, all set to release this week in India. But the demand for Hunt's amazing, death-defying action scenes has not fazed at all.
Mission: Impossible - Fallout is directed by Christopher McQuarrie, who also directed the previous instalment, Rogue Nation and remains the only director to make two movies in the franchise. As the trailers revealed, the film is not without its crazy action scenes, yet we have to see that one bit that would topple Ghost Protocol's Burj Al Khalifa scaling scene or Rogue Nation's plane stunt as the craziest stunt of the franchise.
Speaking of which, while we have often stolen some of MI's stunts (cough..cough...Dilwale....Cough cough), Tom Cruise might be surprised to know that there are certain stunts that Indian cinema legends have done before him! No, we are not kidding! They might be cheesily, shoddily shot, but yeah, our stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Hrithik Roshan even Dharmendra have placed the flag before Cruise. Like these five instances below -
Scaling that building!
When Tom Cruise did it:
Movie: Ghost Protocol (2014)
Of course, one of the best MI stunts Tom Cruise has ever done was scaling the Burj Al Khalifa (something that the actor did on his own). The whole scene was heart-stopping thanks to Hunt's faulty adhesive gloves. But did he know that our King Khan had attempted a similar stunt with very fewer risks?
When Shah Rukh Khan did it:
Movie: Baadshah (1999)
That's right! Shah Rukh Khan managed to climb a building with ease thanks to these 'Chipkali shoes' (not available on Flipkart or Amazon). The success of these shoes is proof enough to believe in 'Make in India' initiative.
The plane stunt
When Tom Cruise did it:
Movie: Rogue Nation (2016)
Tom Cruise begins his last Mission Impossible movie with this amazing scene, that got him a lot of dropped jaws and cheers. But did Cruise ever bother to check Akshay Kumar's stunt career?
When Akshay Kumar did it:
Movie: Khiladi 420 (2000)
The most legitimate stunt scene in Indian cinema in this list. Hats off to Akshay for pulling off this incredible feat! Though we wish the movie would have matched up to it!
Stealing with stealth
When Tom Cruise did it:
Movie: Mission Impossible (1996)
Remembering that tension-racking scene from the first adventure of Ethan Hunt? The whole scene was superbly-directed as with every second our hearts came closer to our mouths. But then...
When Dharmendra did it:
Movie: Shalimar (1978)
Not wasting time on wires and all, Dharmendra rather spends his time making the perfect camouflage suit to steal a diamond in the underrated but fun heist thriller.
Yet another stealth scene
When Tom Cruise did it:
Movie: Ghost Protocol (2014)
Ghost Protocol had some really enthralling scenes that combined the sci-fi elements with heist stuff. Like this scene that was set in Kremlin, where Hunt and Benji try to fool a security guard by using a camera to create a render of the hallway behind them. However, Bollywood does one better!
When Hrithik Roshan did it
Movie: Dhoom 2 (2006)
In this movie filled with enough disguises to put the whole IMF to shame, Hrithik needs no Benji nor hi-tech camera to steal a diamond. Just a lot of white paint and a toy car were enough. Just don't ask how he made it to that chamber without getting noticed!
The train stunt
When Tom Cruise did it:
Movie: Mission Impossible (1996)
The climax of the Mission Impossible film featured a train, a helicopter, a lot of recognisable CGI and Tom Cruise fighting baddies.
When Chiranjeevi did it
Movie: Goonda (1984, Telugu)
There might be no helicopter involved, but there are some crazy fights on top of a train and a ticking time-bomb!
Did we miss out on more such scenes? Or do we deserve more abuses from all Tom Cruise fans? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
Mission: Impossible - Fallout also stars Simon Pegg, Alec Baldwin, Angela Bassett, Ving Rhames and Henry Cavill. The movie is releasing on July 27.
