The actress opens us on her move back home and other things.
Little did actress Tanushree Dutta herself know that she will be credited with beginning the #MeToo Movement here in India. A candid 'tell-all' interview led to the actress opening up about sexual harassment meted out to her by veteran actor Nana Patekar, choreographer Ganesh Acharya and director Vivek Agnihotri. And with this began the #Me Too movement in the country with countless allegations being placed by women against some very prominent names in the industry. And now, after achieving something that nobody in the country has, actress Tanushree Dutta, who was planning to stay in the country for only a month, but stayed on for five more, is finally packing her bag and baggage and moving back to New Jersey, where she is based now.
The actress initiated legal proceedings against Nana Patekar and the case is still going on in court. And the actress is hopeful that she gets justice. Opening up on the same to Mid-Day, Tanushree was quoted as saying, "Such things are a revolution. What matters is its impact in the future. It has created an atmosphere where sexual predators are aware that they cannot get away with misbehavior. It came as a surprise when women began calling out the sexual predators. I am aware that #MeToo cannot be front page news every day." All Allegations by Tanushree Dutta Are 'Far From The Truth' Says Nana Patekar's Lawyer
There were a lot of statements passed by a lot of people from various walks of life who claimed that opening up about a 10 year-old case was Tanushree's ploy at getting access to reality shows, to extract money, to get publicity and even to make a comeback into Bollywood. When the actress was questioned on the same, she answered the tabloid, "They should know better. This was not the best way for me to return on the big screen. Would any industry folk want to get involved with a person who is creating a storm?"
Elaborating on her life in the States, she continued, "My future lies there. I will head out early next year." Tanushree's bold move and her stance of not being pulled down by intimidation has only given a lot of other women the courage to open up about their Me Too experiences. We hope that justice is served to all these sufferers and the movement continues to empower many.
