#MeToo Movement: Sanjay Dutt Defends Director Rajkumar Hirani Against Sexual Misconduct Allegations

Sanjay Dutt recently stated that he does not believe in the allegations of sexual assault made against director Rajkumar Hirani.

Sanjay Dutt has been quite a busy star lately, with many big banner films on his plate. The actor is currently gearing up for his upcoming multi-starrer big-budget movie Kalank, which is slated to hit the theatres in two weeks. Amid all the promotional events, that have been happening across the country, the Khalnayak star recently stated that he does not believe in the allegations of sexual assault made against director Rajkumar Hirani. Sanjay Dutt Dismisses Rumours About Contesting Lok Sabha Elections 2019.

In a conversation with Rajeev Masand about the making of his next film in the Munna Bhai series, the actor said that the film would happen when the script is ready. When Rajeev further probed him about the allegations of sexual harassment against Rajkumar Hirani were any true, Sanjay said, “I don’t believe in those allegations. I have worked with him in so many films, it’s been so many years and I don’t know why that lady is putting these allegations. It does not make sense to any one of us. If you have some allegations, file an FIR, do something. But Raju Hirani and those kind of allegations, I don’t think so."

Earlier in January, Huffington Post published an account of a female employee, who worked with the director on the post-production of Sanju. The woman, in an email, addressed to film critic Anupama Chopra, stated that she was sexually assaulted by the filmmaker between March and September 2018. However, the director denied the accusations in a statement issued by his lawyer. The incident came to light when the big storm of MeToo movement hit the showbiz world and shook the foundation of it. Many big names were called out and many incidents were reported.

Talking about the film, Kalank stars Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sonakshi Sinha, and Madhuri Dixit in pivotal roles, along with Sanjay Dutt. The film will witness the Sanjay and Madhuri coming back together on the silver screen after more than 20 years. Helmed by Abhishek Verman and bankrolled by Dharma Productions, the movie is slated to hit the theatres on April 17.
