More and more prominent figures, mostly male, are falling like pins in the wake of #MeToo movement in India. We have heard of allegations against celebs like Nana Patekar, Alok Nath, Vikas Bahl, MJ Akbar, a couple of AIB members, Rajat Kapoor, Subhash Ghai, Sajid Khan and others, with more names added the list of alleged sexual offenders on a daily basis. Now, famous painter and activist Jatin Das has also been accused of sexual misconduct by two women. First, it was Nisha Bora who had accused Das of indecent behaviour in an incident that happened in 2004, which she shared on her Twitter. In her tweet, she claimed that she had met Jatin Das through her father-in-law and when he learned she was an admirer of his work, he had asked her to assist him for a few days. However, at his workshop, he had allegedly tried to grope and kiss her.
Nisha wrote, "I visited Jatin in his studio, which was in Khidki Village. I don’t recall the time of day, but that it was well within daylight hours. He poured himself some whiskey; offered me one too, but I refused. The next thing I knew, he attempted to grab me. I wriggled out of his embrace, flustered. Then he did it again. This time, he managed a clumsy kiss on my lips. I recall the feeling of his beard on my skin. I pushed him away, and moved away from him. At that moment, he said, Come on, it would be nice. Or something like that. What I recall clearly was his disbelief that I was pushing back. " As Salim Khan Gets Preachy About #MeToo, Twitterati Asks Him to Answer for Salman’s Wrong Deeds First.

Reacting to Nisha's tweet, another woman named Anushree Majumdar also claimed that Jatin Das was acting creepy with her in 2006. Check out her tweets below -
(1/3) I was fresh out of college when I met Jatin Das in 2006. I was a project manager for the first Monsoon Festival in Delhi, 2006. I had to pick up a painting from his studio, I called him to ask when. He was sweet till he asked me if I would work for him as his assistant. https://t.co/PsQ9WRO1tB

(2/3) I was surprised, flattered but the feeling evaporated when he insisted that I should quit my current job, work for him immediately. He'd pay more. Later, a friend and I went to his studio, Shahpur Jat, to pick up the painting. He stood too close, he asked strange questions.

(3/3) On the day of the opening, he called me to tell me that he was coming only to see me; and I must work for him after the festival is done. I spent all evening at Alliance Francaise hiding from him. He called many times the next day; he gave up when I didn't answer his calls.

Ironically, Nandita Das was one of the film-makers who signed the petition recently that they will not work with proven offenders in their movies. Wonder what she has to say when these allegations have hit closer home. Expecting a statement from her or Jatin Das himself soon on this, so watch this space for more updates.
