#MeToo in Bollywood: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Wants The Campaign To Gain Momentum-Deets Inside!
Ash has been supporting the cause that ensures that all women are treated with respect!
Tanushree Dutta's complain against Nana Patekar has just snowballed into something that has only helped gain momentum to #MeToo movement with many women from Bollywood coming out to have their say. From director Vikas Bahl to Varun Grover and from Alok Nath to Utsav Chakroborthy everybody is named and shamed as different charges are hurled at them by many. Ace Bollywood superstar Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who had walked out of a reportedly abusive relationship with Salman Khan, stood by the #MeToo movement long before it became a rage.
In her conversation with Huffington Post, Ash did not mince words. 'When it comes to helping women find their voice, find the strength, feel confident about sharing their stories, it's not about the current time. This has been going on since a lot of time and I am glad it has found a certain momentum today." she even stated that she does vouch for the movement. She said, "I have always spoken out, I spoke in the past, I am speaking now, and I will continue to speak," she said. The actor refrained from commenting on specific cases such as those of Bahl and Alok Nath but said in the same interview, "the #MeToo movement has been the need of the hour since time immemorial and I hope together we keep the momentum going. At the same time, if a case gets sub judice, we have to respect the law of the land".
Several female journalists too have been vocal about their incidents of sexual misconduct by people outside the industry. These are the same people who interacted with at various level. While in the old days one wouldn't make too much of a fuss one thought one would get away with it. Nobody was willing to give any attention to the fact that you’re a woman and therefore you have some additional vulnerability. But now things are changing for better with more voices getting the much-needed strength, and when popular figures like Aishwarya come out and voice their concerns it only helps to strengthen the cause!
