Mehmood Ali who is better known as Mehmood, was called as The King of Comedy in the 1960s, 70s and 80s. He is known for playing comic roles in Hindi films and that is cherished even today. Mehmood made his acting debut as child artist in 1943 with the film Kismet. Chhoti Bahen, Sasural, Dil Tera Diwana, Padosan, Pyar Kiye Jaa, are some of the best films to his credit. It was in 1958 when Mehmood got a major break, Parvarish. Due to financial crisis Mehmood also had to do odd jobs. So besides doing films, he also worked as a driver for Rajkumar Santoshi, who later roped him in the 1994 film Andaz Apna Apna. The actor who made hearts smile with his impeccable comic timings, received accolades for best performance in a comic role.

Mehmood married Meena Kumari's younger sister Madhu and post that he took a break for a brief period. After it he started to do small roles and even tried his hands by taking up lead roles. Mehmood’s career graph started to decline by the end of 70s as there were other actors who were acing the genre of comedy. Mehmood is one of the most loved actors of Indian cinema. He passed away in his sleep on July 23, 2004. At that time he was in Pennsylvania to get treated for cardiovascular heart disease. His body was brought back to India for fans and others to pay homage.
