The legendary Indian actress Mahjabeen Bano aka Meena Kumari was born on August 1, 1933. Popularly known as The Tragedy Queen of Bollywood, Meena Kumari has essayed a variety of roles that will stay with us forever. Her charisma was unmatchable and her beauty is far above rubies! Meena Kumari was not only a talented actress but a gem of a person too. She is often referred to as Female Guru Dutt of Hindi films and is also called the Cinderella of Indian films.

Though she lived a life that everyone would have only dreamed of, she died at a shockingly young age. Meena Kumari suffered from liver cirhossis and died at the meagre age of 38. One of her most anticipated and most loved films till date, Pakeezah released in 1972 and unfortunately, she didn't live to see how successful the film was.

Meena Kumari apprently had a tragic childhood too. It is believed that her father left her at the door of an orphanage when she was a kid. After some time, he returned to fetch the baby and to his shock, found ants crawling creepily all over her body. Analysing that haunting childhood incident, Vinod Mehta, who wrote a biography on the actress, observed, "I believe that moment remained in her subconscious mind. Here was a traumatised soul. She could not have been a happy person. Life had decided that she will suffer. She was fortunate that this unhappiness was appreciated in her roles. She understood this emotion so well."
