Marvel's Black Panther Shares This Amazing Box Office Record With James Cameron's Avatar

That said, Black Panther is the only movie of this decade to hold the above record.

Roaring fiercely at the Box Office!

Despite Avengers: Infinity War being the current talk of the town after the new trailer landed, Marvel's last release Black Panther continues its golden run at the box office. The superhero movie, starring Chadwick Boseman in the lead, has already entered the billion dollar club, after its release in China last week and has now grossed $1.2 billion worldwide.

Black Panther is still miles away from taking over the top spot of the highest grossing movie of all time, currently held by James Cameron's Avatar with $2.2 billion earnings. In reality, Black Panther is 14 spots away and yet it shares one huge record with Avatar. It has held the top position at the North America box office for five straight weeks without relinquishing it to other releases including, last week Tomb Raider. The same record is also shared by James Cameron's own Titanic and M Night Shyamalan's Sixth Sense. Titanic holds the record for being on the first position for 15 weeks straight, which is nigh impossible for Black Panther to achieve, since some major releases are up. This week, it has to compete with Pacific Rim 2 while next week arrives Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One.

That said, Black Panther is the only movie of this decade to hold the above record. It is also all set to break The Avengers' record of being the highest grossing MCU movie in North America. While the Avengers made $623.4 million in North America, Black Panther has grossed more than $605 million and is still going strong.

However, we have to see if Avengers: Infinity War will shatter nearly every record that Black Panther has made, not related to race or colour.

Funnily enough, while Black Panther holds the record of being the best reviewed movie on review-aggregate site, Rotten Tomatoes, the movie has got terrible reviews in China for being 'too black'. And we thought Americans were racist!
