Manikarnika was initially directed by Krish. But when the schedule of the film extended, he could not provide dates and Kanagan had to step in as the director. In a recent interview, one of the producers of Manikarnika had said that Kangana has shot for "70 per cent of the film". Kangana had many a time expressed her desire to direct a film and this was a blessing in disguise. As a fan, it feels good to see her name credited as the 'director'.

Apart from Kangana Ranaut as the headliner, Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi boasts of a stellar supporting cast. Ankita Lokhande stars as Manikarnika's advisor and leaves an impact despite being there for mere seconds in the trailer. Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Atul Kulkarni, Suresh Oberoi, Danny Denzongpa, Yash Tonk star in various roles in the film.
