Manikarnika was initially directed by Krish. But when the schedule of the film extended, he could not provide dates and Kanagan had to step in as the director. In a recent interview, one of the producers of Manikarnika had said that Kangana has shot for "70 per cent of the film". Kangana had many a time expressed her desire to direct a film and this was a blessing in disguise. As a fan, it feels good to see her name credited as the 'director'.

Apart from Kangana Ranaut as the headliner, Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi boasts of a stellar supporting cast.
