Talking about the movie, Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, the movie marks the directorial debut of its lead actress, Kangana Ranaut. She had replaced the original director, Telugu film-maker Krish, who exited for unspecified reasons (though he stills shares directorial credit). This also resulted in the exit of actor Sonu Sood, who had an important role in the film, after he refused to give dates for the reshoots. Manikarnika, based on the life of Rani Laxmibai of Jhansi, also stars Danny Denzongpa, Suresh Oberoi, Ankita Lokhande and Mishti. At the box office, it will be clashing with Nawazuddin Siddiqui's Thackeray biopic.
