Raksha Bandhan is a very special tradition followed and celebrated amongst the Hindus. This beautiful tradition has influenced many, and many Indian around the world celebrate this festival. On this day, sisters tie the rakhi (a sacred thread) around the wrists of their brothers, symbolising the bond of protection. But the women in Sangli have celebrated the day much ahead of Raksha Bandhan 2019. This year Raksha Bandhan is being celebrated on August 15. A video of women in Sangli is doing rounds on social media in which they’re seen tying rakhis to the brave soldiers who saved people from the floods. Riteish Deshmukh who is overwhelmed with this gesture, has shared the video on Twitter and captioned it, ‘Gratitude to the Saviours’.
Riteish Deshmukh is known to do initiatives for social causes. In 2017, Riteish donated Rs 25 lakhs for Jalyukta Latur, for the drought relief programme in Maharashtra. This was an initiative started by people’s participation to make Latur water sufficient. Now when this video of Sangli women tying rakhis started circulating, Riteish also shared it and captioned it as, “This will make your day. Gratitude to the saviours. Women tying Rakhis to our brave soldiers. यही हमारी संस्कृति है! जय हिंद!! #Sangli #Maharashtra”.

Kolhapur and Sangli districts were the worst-hit areas. The rescue operations carried out by the Army and Navy Jawans in the flood-hit regions of Maharashtra has been lauded by everyone. This glimpse of celebration, expressing gratitude, has made many hearts smile!
